East Village Eats

Food & Drink recommendations straight from the East Village, New York City

Taste of Nolita Food Festival

Sort of like the Taste of 7th Street Food Festival that I’ve spoken about before, Scoop St. is bringing us a Nolita version.  Honestly, I’ll admit that I don’t know that much about restaurants in the area, but it’s not too far from the East Village & the lineup does look sick. A mere $19 [...]

East Village Eats Tasting Tour 2010

I suppose with this year’s East Village Eats just around the corner (info here), it was time that I wrote a recap of the awesome time that I had the year before.  It was 8 months almost to the day ago, but I took loads of pictures & several pages of notes, so I’ll try [...]

Sunny & Annie

I doubt that there’s an East Village resident that at hasn’t bought a sandwich from Sunny & Annie whether it was on the way home from work, or stumbling around drunk on Avenue B.  My first experience with Sunny & Annie was in late 2001 when I needed some milk.  I figured that it was [...]

E & S Wholesome Foods Already Falling Apart

E & S Wholesome Foods, the snazzy-looking bodega that opened recently at 226 East 7th street at Avenue C is already looking a bit ragged.  There has been some serious ‘signage slippage’ lately.  I’ve been in there a few times & I think it’s a great new addition to the neighborhood & the prices are [...]

Roast Chicken Sandwich from Frank Restaurant

I’m feeling pretty lucky at the moment as I won another free lunch from Frank Restaurant a few days ago. @frankrestauant on Twitter, if you’re the first to retweet, you get a free lunch that varies daily.  I’m never one to pass up a free meal so I humbly accepted, I love the food at [...]

‘Tis the Season for Delivery

Well, I meant to post this yesterday morning when conditions were a lot worse, but I guess it’s still relevant. With the ‘Great Blizzard of 2010′ causing havoc all over the East Village, it’s likely that several restaurants will be shuttered & honestly, I couldn’t fathom why anyone would want to be out in this [...]

Mõtek (CLOSED)

I really don’t spend much time on Saint Marks Place, so I was really surprised to stumble on Mõtek (125 Saint Marks Place at Avenue A).  Mõtek serves coffee & sandwiches, but the real draw are the crepes; available in both sweet & savory variations. The place looks brand spanking new, but the guy behind [...]

Fourth Arts Block East Village Eats Food Tour Preview

Fourth Arts Block, a non-profit located on East 4th Street Cultural District is hosting an East Village Food Tour & Fund-raising event. $35 gets you access to 15 restaurants in the East Village as well as discount drinks at a few bars in the area (buy your tix now, they go up to $45 tomorrow).  [...]

Carteles (CLOSED)

I finally ate at Carteles (443 East 6th Street just off of Avenue A) the Cuban sandwich & coffee shop tucked away inside Cienfuegos.  I’m looking forward to rum-inspired Cienfuegos’ full opening (the downstairs is still under construction), but I’ll admit that I was glad to check out what their kitchen has to offer.

Paradiso

After spending a lot of time going to 9th Street Espresso for my daily coffee, I’ve decided that Paradiso (105 Avenue B at 7th Street) is a much better option.  Open since Feb. 2009 it’s a small space (formerly Bang-On) with a few seats & tables, but it is generally never crowded & offers free [...]
