Food & Drink recommendations straight from the East Village, New York City

Puddin’

There’s something about a good dessert that you just can’t forget. Maybe it takes you back to your youth or just fills that gap that you never knew you had.  Puddin’ on Saint Marks St has an awesome combination of both of these attributes & chef Clio Goodman has hit the nail on the head [...]

Acme

Back in May of last year I wrote about how Acme, one of my favorite Southern food mainstays, had unceremoniously closed (employees were given no notice at all), completely gutted (EVGrieve has coverage) & after lengthy renovations opened as a Nordic (by way of Scandinavia) restaurant.  The team from Bond St. managed to convince Chef Mads Refslund, a [...]

Egg Creams at Ray’s Candy Store

For some reason I got a few tweets yesterday informing me that it was ‘National Egg Cream Day’ & that I should visit Ray’s Candy Store or Gem Spa in the East Village to partake.  With a name like ‘Egg Cream’, I immediately assumed that both ingredients were in the drink which completely turned me [...]

The Meatball Factory

Meatballs seem to be ‘trending’ right now, so when I got an invite from McKenzie of MMMGuide to sample some of the food at The Meatball Factory, she didn’t have to ask me twice.  The ‘Factory’  opened about 3 months ago & serves salad, pizzas, fettuccine & obviously meatballs.

Turkey Leg Ball

With Immaculate Infatuation‘s Turkey Leg Ball jumping off tonight at 7:30, I’d be doing myself a disservice if I didn’t recap last year’s awesome event that they hosted with Cooking Channel.  Back in 2010 I really wasn’t clued up that much on food event etiquette & made a few rookie mistakes (not to be repeated this year).  The event [...]

Cooking Demo At Affaire

Last Thursday, Nearsay teamed up with French restaurant/lounge Affaire to host a mussels cooking demo & meetup for local bloggers.  Located in a sprawling space that once housed #1 Chinese & China 1, Affaire still has some remnants of it’s Asian past while the menu is classic French.

Taste Of Nolita Recap

Last week I attended the Taste Of Nolita Food Festival (previously mentioned here) which ran from Wednesday til Friday & featured 7 restaurants & discounts at a few bars in Nolita.  Luckily I had the chance to go, so I figure I’d let you know my thoughts on the event.  Things kicked off at Asia [...]

Taste of Nolita Food Festival

Sort of like the Taste of 7th Street Food Festival that I’ve spoken about before, Scoop St. is bringing us a Nolita version.  Honestly, I’ll admit that I don’t know that much about restaurants in the area, but it’s not too far from the East Village & the lineup does look sick. A mere $19 [...]

Spice Cove

With so many Indian restaurants along Curry Row (East 6th street between 1st & 2nd Avenue), I really don’t know why I don’t eat more Indian food.  Maybe it’s because I spent so much time in England where curry is basically an art-form & I’ve been unable to find really great Indian food here in [...]
