Back Forty (190 Avenue B @ 12th Street):  They make it on the list purely because they consistently serve up amazingly good food.  Their Pork Jowl Nuggets seem to have magical qualities, the menu has enough variety to keep you well fed & the staff are attentive but not overbearing.  I love this place!

Casimir (103-105 Avenue B @ 7th St.) A no brainer for me.  Casimir served as my kitchen for much of 2002 & 2003 when I lived in the building.  A great restaurant with a Parisienne tabac feel.  I normally eat at the bar & socialize with the other regulars.  The Steak Tartare & the Boudin are my favorite dishes.  The atmosphere there has become a bit more stuffy as of late, but I still really enjoy this place & I normally eat there once a week.

Takahachi (85 Avenue A @ 6th St.) A mix of great sushi & a vibrant atmosphere makes Takahachi my favorite sushi restaurant in the East Village.  They serve inexpensive food without compromising on taste or quality.  For the best deals in the house, get there early (before 7pm) & try the Early Specials.  $11 will totally fill you up & you’ll be coming back for more.
